Warsaw in two days: a relaxed itinerary for a first visit

Two days in Warsaw can reveal several sides of the city, provided you do not turn the trip into a race between landmarks. Our suggestion combines a first day around the Old Town and Royal Castle with a second day in Łazienki and, if you would like another museum, POLIN. Each half-day leaves room for meals, travel and the weather.

Choose your visits before filling both days
Start with your actual arrival time, accommodation address and return departure. If Saturday begins at midday, shorten the route instead of trying to recover a whole morning. For a first visit, choose one main attraction per day: the Royal Castle on day one, then POLIN on day two if its subject interests you. The Warsaw tourism office helps locate these places; our arrangement allows a more flexible pace.

Day 1: Royal Castle, Old Town and a walk
Begin on plac Zamkowy and choose an indoor route at the Royal Castle. The Trasa Królewska, focused on the royal apartments, is listed at PLN 60 standard admission with an audioguide. It is not the ticket combining every route: the official new routes cover different spaces. Open the castle ticket office online and reread the date, route and time before paying.
The castle’s practical-information page lists regular Tuesday–Sunday opening from 10:00 to 17:00, last admission at 16:00, with Monday closure. Wednesdays offer a special free route with exclusions and limited tickets collected on site. Do not automatically replace a paid visit with an assumption that the whole castle is free.
Afterwards, keep time for the Old Town streets and market square. Continue towards Krakowskie Przedmieście and Nowy Świat according to your energy. The Royal Route extends much farther: this walk does not require reaching Wilanów. In rain, shorten the outdoor section and take a sheltered break instead of adding another timed museum entry.
Day 2: Łazienki, then a museum if time allows
The Łazienki gardens make a quieter morning. Admission is free; the official opening-hours page currently lists 06:00–21:00. Buildings have separate tickets and hours: from October to April, Sunday opening at the Palace on the Isle is listed as 10:00–16:00. Walking in the park does not include an indoor visit.
For the afternoon, organise POLIN as a separate journey. The museum closes on Tuesdays; regular Sunday hours are 10:00–18:00, with last entry to the core exhibition at 16:00. Check the closure dates and current conditions before choosing your slot.
The POLIN visitor page lists standard admission at PLN 45 with an audioguide, including a French option. Buy ahead if you want to secure the programme and check the selected offer. Thursday’s free admission does not extend automatically to Sunday. If you leave early, choose the park or museum and allow time to collect your luggage.
Transport and budget: compare your actual stay
For a Saturday–Sunday stay, compare the WTP weekendowy ticket: PLN 24 standard fare, zones 1+2, from Friday 19:00 until Monday 08:00. A zone 1 24-hour ticket costs PLN 15 and runs from validation. Warszawa 19115 explains the conditions. The weekend ticket does not cover any arbitrary two weekdays.
Example for one adult choosing both museums: PLN 60 for the royal route, PLN 45 for POLIN and PLN 24 for that transport ticket, totalling PLN 129. This excludes accommodation, meals, airport transfers and other admissions; it is not a complete travel budget. A free Łazienki walk can also replace a paid visit.
Read the official advice on getting around Warsaw, then check your journey for the day. Validate a paper ticket on boarding a bus or tram, or at the platform entrance in the metro. Follow the instructions for your digital ticket. Count walking and finding the right stop as well as time spent riding.
Adapt the plan and check public holidays
If the weather deteriorates, swap walking and booked visits where your tickets allow it. For a Sunday–Monday stay, remember the castle’s usual Monday closure and check other venues. Listed hours do not guarantee every room is open or tickets remain available at the last minute.
Dated note for 1 November 2026: the Royal Castle, POLIN and Łazienki’s buildings announce closure that day. Revise the usual Sunday programme rather than booking another service on the assumption that these visits are possible.
