Łódź: the tramway prepares to return to Warszawska

The renovation contract was signed on 28 September. Green tracks, more accessible stops and a cycle path are planned. Design and permits must come first, with completion scheduled by 2029 at the latest.

A new milestone has been reached in the renewal of Warszawska, in northern Łódź. The city announced the signing on Monday 28 September 2026 of a contract covering the street and its tramway. The affected section runs from the Powstańców 1863 r. roundabout to Wycieczkowa.

A timetable spanning several years

According to the schedule presented by the municipality, design work and permits should take about a year. Construction is envisaged for late 2027, with completion by 2029 at the latest. The announced return of tram line 3 belongs to that timeframe.

Specialist outlet Rynek Infrastruktury identifies Trakcja as the contractor. For residents, signing the contract therefore begins a new phase of the project ahead of work on the ground.

However, Rynek Infrastruktury reports a contractual deadline at the end of May 2028, different from the city’s 2029 horizon. These two announcements therefore do not establish a single certain reopening date.

The street as well as the tramway

The municipality plans green tram tracks and wider, raised stops. The renewal should allow low-floor trams to serve the Rogi neighbourhood, making boarding easier.

The programme also includes road renewal, paving a currently unsealed section, parking spaces and new trees. A cycle path is to extend the scheme towards Arturówek.

A transformation to follow in stages

For French-speaking residents, the announcement provides context for the neighbourhood’s planned evolution. The useful milestones will be permits, the actual start of construction and future traffic arrangements. Meanwhile, everyday journeys should be planned using current timetables and notices, without anticipating the announced reopening.
