Choose a holiday pace rather than racing between five cities

This selection is a menu of possibilities, not an itinerary requiring you to cross the country in seven days. For a first stay, choose one city as a base and add a second stop if transport allows. One booked visit per day leaves time for walks, cafés and unexpected discoveries.

The advertised events concern the week from Monday 12 to Sunday 18 October 2026. Opening times and available places should be checked again when booking: an open museum does not guarantee a ticket for every activity.

Warsaw: enjoy the final days of the film festival

The Warsaw International Film Festival continues until 18 October. For visitors, a screening can provide the focus of the day: a walk through the centre in the morning, a café break, then cinema in the late afternoon or evening, depending on the programme.

Choose a film according to its language and subtitles, then check the exact cinema and time in the official programme. Do not assume every screening is accessible in French. A festival ticket concerns a specific screening, not all cultural activities in the capital.

In fine weather, keep time for the old town. If it rains, prioritise the screening and a separately booked indoor visit. Choosing the right film matters more than an overloaded programme.

Kraków: Wawel during the week, then neighbourhoods on foot

Wawel makes a good central visit for a stay in Kraków. For October, the castle advertises a special Monday programme: from 10:00 to 16:00, selected exhibitions are free with a ticket to collect, available in limited numbers. This does not mean the entire site is free or that access is guaranteed without booking or collecting a ticket.

From Tuesday to Sunday, the official programme lists visits from 9:00 to 17:00, with earlier final admissions depending on the route chosen. Book your preferred exhibition and check its exact slot. For the week of 12–18 October, we suggest a morning castle visit followed by a walk towards the centre or Kazimierz, weather permitting.

If it rains, spend more time with the collections instead of adding more journeys. A single in-depth visit can give the day its character.

Wrocław: a walk and two hours at Hydropolis

Begin with a walk through the historic centre, taking time to notice the small dwarfs dotted around the city. For an indoor activity, Hydropolis offers a discovery of water and its uses, especially suited to school-age children and curious adults.

The centre advertises opening from 9:00 to 18:00 Monday to Friday, with final admission at 17:00; at weekends, from 9:00 to 19:00, with final admission at 18:00. Allow around two hours: entering at the last slot therefore does not leave as much time as an earlier visit. Online booking requires choosing an admission time.

Hydropolis is at 17 Na Grobli Street. Its car park is reserved for group coaches and visitors with disabilities, so favour public transport. Quiet hours are advertised on Sundays from 17:00 to 19:00. This is an option to consider for 18 October, while respecting the venue’s instructions.

Gdańsk: cinema and history around the former shipyards

All About Freedom Festival runs until Saturday 17 October at the European Solidarity Centre, plac Solidarności 1. It combines cinema, meetings and other artistic activities. The official page notably advertises a closing concert on Friday 16 October; consult the programme for the time and access conditions.

Build a day around a screening, with a walk around the former shipyards or a visit to the permanent exhibition. Festival and museum tickets should not be confused. Also check subtitles before choosing a film.

By Sunday 18 October, the festival is over: plan a cultural visit or a walk rather than an assumed AAFF screening. In strong coastal winds, favour an indoor activity and consult the day’s weather information.

Łódź: discover a former industrial city

For a stay in Łódź, combine a walk along Piotrkowska with a visit to the EC1 complex at 1/3 Targowa Street. The science centre and cultural spaces let you build a day that works even in the rain.

EC1 advertises its exhibitions from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00. Monday 12 October should therefore be set aside for another activity. The official page also lists a technical closure of Ulica Żywiołów through 12 October inclusive: do not plan it for that day and check its reopening before booking.

The planetarium, cinema and Ulica Żywiołów have their own tickets and timetables. An exhibition ticket does not automatically cover every part of the complex. Choose one main activity, then add a planetarium slot only if the times fit.

Before booking: five details that change your stay

Check closure days, final admission times, the language of the visit or subtitles, separate tickets and your return journey. For travel between cities, consult timetables for your travel date rather than relying on a generic journey time.

Keep an indoor activity in reserve and adapt walks to the weather. Prices can change, and availability is not guaranteed by this selection. Official links under each suggestion let you book with the correct establishment.

Our preference for an autumn week: two or three days of planned discoveries, followed by free half-days. A city can also be discovered in a courtyard, beside a river or over a coffee.
