Discovering different sides of Gdańsk

The city programme for 18–20 September offers reasons to explore beyond the Royal Route and Motława waterfront. Free and family activities are listed in Przymorze, the former shipyard, Oruński Park and several outer districts.

Friday: culture and a charitable event

A charity board-game tournament takes place on Friday from 4 pm to 8 pm at Galeria Przymorze, ul. Obrońców Wybrzeża 1. Admission is listed as free, with event proceeds supporting the Pomeranian Children’s Hospice.

The Baltic Philharmonic’s opening concert on Ołowianka Island is sold out according to the city. The waterfront remains a pleasant place for a walk, but do not plan to enter the concert without a ticket.

Saturday: the shipyard, nature and free activities

A photography walk through the shipyard is listed for 10 am on Saturday. Close to the European Solidarity Centre, this area helps visitors understand the city’s industrial and social history. Check whether advance registration is required.

At 11 am, the calendar lists several free options: nature walks in different districts, an environmental activity in Schopenhauer Park and a walk through Zaspa, a district known for large-scale murals.

Oruński Park hosts a map-based FunRun orienteering activity from 9:30 am. Conditions depend on the selected category; families should verify age and registration requirements.

Sunday: workshops and family discoveries

At 11 am on Sunday, a family workshop explores the former shipyard gatehouse as part of the “Stoczniowa stolarnia” series. Other children’s options include a concert, creative workshops and a robotics open day.

Visitors interested in local design can also check the Targi Unikatów market, listed from noon to 7 pm. A free jewellery-making workshop appears in the programme at 3 pm, subject to the organiser’s entry conditions.

A simple route for a first visit

Start in the morning on the Royal Route, walking from the Golden Gate to Neptune’s Fountain, then continue to the Motława waterfront. Use another half-day for the shipyard and European Solidarity Centre. For a green break, choose Oruński Park or Oliwski Park according to your itinerary.

Gdańsk covers a large area, so check the exact address before leaving. SKM trains are useful along the Gdańsk–Sopot–Gdynia corridor, while trams and buses serve individual districts. An event described as being in Gdańsk may not be within walking distance of the historic centre.

Confirm the time, price, language and accessibility in the official calendar on the day. Carry a waterproof layer, as wind and weather near the Baltic coast can change quickly.
