Kraków: free KMK buses and trams on Tuesday 22 September
KMK travel will be free throughout 22 September 2026 for European Car-Free Day. Here is what passengers need to know.
On Tuesday 22 September 2026, buses and trams in the Komunikacja Miejska w Krakowie (KMK) network will be free all day. The city and MPK Kraków announced the arrangements on 21 September for European Car-Free Day.
No ticket purchase or validation needed
You will not need to buy or validate a ticket for KMK travel that day. Paper-ticket validators will not validate tickets. Buying and activating KMK tickets in mobile apps will also be disabled, as will sales through EMV validators.
Traditional ticket machines will remain available for tickets to use on subsequent days. Their availability does not mean you need to pay for a journey on 22 September.
Check which network you are using
The announcement concerns KMK. It does not establish that all trains or other operators’ services are free: check the relevant operator’s conditions before a rail journey.
Also check your line’s timetable and any diversions before leaving. Free travel does not mean routes have changed.
