A sporting weekend that will affect travel

Several sporting events will take place in Krakow on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September. They will bring road closures, restrictions for pedestrians and cyclists, and changes to selected public transport services.

Anyone travelling to the railway station, airport, accommodation or a timed activity should allow extra time and check the route immediately before departure.

Saturday 19 September around Błonia

The Cracovia roller marathon starts at 9 am on the al. Focha promenade and is due to finish around noon. Al. Focha will be closed to general traffic between Kraszewskiego and Kałuży from 6 am to 6 pm, with controlled exceptions for public transport and certain heavy vehicles.

Pedestrian and cycle routes around Błonia will be partly unavailable, including sections near al. 3 Maja and Focha and Piastowska and Na Błoniach streets. Children’s races will also take place near the Cracovia municipal stadium.

If visiting Jordan Park, the National Museum or Błonia, consider walking from a stop outside the immediate course area and follow instructions from staff on site.

Sunday 20 September: Podgórze to Piłsudski Mound

The Three Mounds Run starts at 10:30 am near Krakus Mound and is expected to finish around 1 pm at Piłsudski Mound. Temporary closures are planned in Podgórze between 10:30 and 11 am, including around Dembowskiego, Plac Lasoty, Parkowa, Rynek Podgórski, Limanowskiego, Staromostowa and Nadwiślańska.

The course then follows the Vistula towards Zwierzyniecki Bridge. The Księcia Józefa slip road near the bridge, al. Waszyngtona towards Kościuszko Mound and Starowolska will be closed or restricted between approximately 10 am and 12:30 pm.

Temporary no-stopping rules will apply on several streets along the course from 6 am. A vehicle left in a signed restricted area may obstruct the event and be subject to local enforcement measures.

Trams and buses affected on Sunday

The city has announced changes to tram routes 13, 76 and 77 and bus routes 100, 101, 109, 126, 209, 229, 239, 249, 259, 269 and 279.

Timings and diversions may change as the race progresses. Check the KMK journey planner or Zarząd Transportu Publicznego notices immediately before travelling rather than relying on a route saved the previous day.

How to avoid the main disruption

Avoid driving through Błonia on Saturday and the area between Podgórze, the Vistula boulevards, Salwator and Wolski Forest on Sunday morning. Leave earlier for a train or flight and favour rail-based public transport where the service is unaffected.

Access will reopen gradually under the direction of staff on site. Follow barriers and instructions from police and organisers even if a navigation app still suggests a temporarily closed street.
