Choose one region rather than crossing the country
“Golden autumn” describes the season’s colourful scenery, not a fixed-date event. Poland’s national tourism organisation highlights the Bieszczady beech forests in October. Weather and altitude can nevertheless change the landscape quickly. Our suggestion is to spend two or three nights in one region and keep one day flexible.
Bieszczady: a mountain atmosphere
This option suits a walking-focused break. Choose accommodation and routes together after checking national park information. A beautiful ridge photograph is not a promise of an easy hike: ascent, wind and visibility should shape your choice.
Suggested pace: arrival and a short walk on day one, a hike suited to the group on day two, then a shorter morning before leaving. In poor weather, avoid the ridges and ask your accommodation or a tourist information centre about an open alternative.
Roztocze: a base in Zwierzyniec
The national park describes a 2.6 km trail to Bukowa Góra, from its educational and museum centre to Sochy, requiring an admission ticket. That distance does not describe a complete circular walk: plan the return too.
For two days, combine exploring Zwierzyniec, this trail when conditions are suitable and a less ambitious walk. Keep the centre as a possible rainy-day visit, subject to its opening hours.
Tuchola forests: lakes and a slower pace
The park describes the Struga Siedmiu Jezior route, associated with several lakes and the Bartuś oak. This is an extended trail: select a marked section with a clearly planned return rather than treating its name as a short stroll.

Compare rail or bus access and the final journey to your accommodation: a regional station does not guarantee a connection to the trailhead. Confirm the return journey before booking.
Take walking shoes, waterproof clothing, water and an offline map. Check weather, closures and park rules on the day. Not every forest is deciduous: Tuchola’s scenery will not necessarily resemble the red beech woods of Bieszczady.
